Hastings leading Kickboxing Academy in the South working with Schools and Academies across East Sussex for a more positive future.
It is often questioned as to how kickboxing as a sport, can help with or support the cause of anti-bullying and there is no shortage of answers.
Many children and even adults can relate to the emotions associated with bullying which can have devastating effects on peoples lives. Confidence and self-esteem are at the core of a child’s success and motivation in school, sports, and everything they do in life. Many times, being bullied can strip children of such integral traits and have serious negative implications into adulthood.
I would say that around 50% of our members come to HKA to deal with some level of anxiety, low self-esteem and the desire to build their confidence to help control not only their emotions, but other aspects of their lives that this also effects.
Believing in yourself is the first step of many when it comes to growing as an individual, as well as learning the importance of respect and self discipline. It is no secret that in a majority of cases, bullies tend to pick on the weak as a way of boosting their own low self confidence, to stop this from happening relies on children being confident enough to stand up for themselves.
This of course doesn’t necessarily mean teaching them that the correct approach is to fight back physically! However, by providing a fun environment and outlet that will improve their strength, body language and communication skills which fundamentally builds their confidence, allows them the opportunity to believe and stand up for themselves. Kickboxing is not just a sport, but for many is a way of life that instills so many important life lessons and that’s why we wholeheartedly believe that it is a great way of helping kids and supporting anti-bullying.
